Nancy Lonsdorf, M.D.

She is one of America's foremost clinical authorities on natural medicine for the prevention and treatment of disease. Dr. Lonsdorf has 17 years of clinical experience with over 15,000 patient visits during that time. Her practice is based on Maharishi Ayurveda-the revival of the authentic practice of the world's oldest and most comprehensive system of natural medicine.

Dr. Lonsdorf is also a highly recognized authority on the use of Ayurveda for women's health and has published two books on the subject. The first, A Woman's Best Medicine (Putman/Penguin 1995) is a comprehensive introduction to Ayurveda as it applies to the full range of women's health issues. The second, A Woman's Best Medicine for Menopause (Contemporary/McGraw Hill May 2002) is a complete description of the Ayurvedic approach to menopause, its symptoms and natural alternatives to hormone replacement therapy (hrt).

Doctor Lonsdorf is currently the Medical Director of The Raj Ayurveda Health Center, North America's oldest and largest in-residence Ayurveda Health Center. Previously, she served as Medical Director of the Maharishi Ayurveda Medical Center in the greater Washington, D.C. area from 1987-2000.

Dr. Lonsdorf has trained in Maharishi Ayurveda, the complete system of natural medicine from the Vedic civilization of ancient India, with leading Ayurvedic scholars and physicians in India, Europe and the United States.

Dr. Lonsdorf has served on numerous occasions as a consultant and grant reviewer in complementary medicine for the National Institutes of Health. She has lectured at top medical schools including the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, Georgetown University Medical Center, Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons, George Washington University School of Medicine, Howard University, and the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences.

She is a popular public speaker on Ayurvedic medicine, is a frequently quoted expert in Ayurvedic medicine, and has been featured or cited in a wide variety of newspapers and magazines articles including The Washingtonian, Yoga Journal, Vegetarian Times, Fit, and Natural Health. Her media experience is extensive, with numerous appearances on local and national shows, including CNN, National Public Radio, TV-MD (PBS), The Donahue Show and Geraldo Rivero.
